  1. i purchased your Luan app because of the attractiveness of the Phase page, but the app disappoints me in its use. (1) I would like the app to open in the Phase view, showing the current date and the phase of the moon. (2) However, I can’t seem to get to the Phase page without going to the Gregorian page and manually pressing the icon for the current day, which is pretty useless. Why should I have to know what day it is myself, when the app is a calendar? (3) It seems that the app *isn’t* a calendar, because none of the pages seem to know what day it is. This is a problem. When I use the arrow keys to move back and forth among days on the Phase page, I’m quickly lost. What day have I come to? (4) If I’m on a Phase page and press Gregorian, I’m just back on the main page, with no indication what day I just pressed. (5) I bought the app because I found it attractive; I assumed it would be minimally useful. Please update it to make it useful.

  2. I have an iPhone, and today I purchased Luan from the Apple Aps store for 99p (pence in Pounds Sterling). Only about 1/3rd of the program downloaded and it froze. I tried to go back to iPhone Apps, but it said that I had already purchased it. Then the 1/3rd downloaded Luan logo on my iPhone disappeared.

I’m not so worried about the loss of 99p as I am of this program.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks,

    }:-)

  3. If your phone loses network connectivity while downloading, the download may fail. You should be able to complete the download the next time you tether and connect to iTunes. You can also delete the app and “repurchase” it from your device. You will not be charged twice. I have also experienced stuck apps restart after downloading another (free) app. Hope this helps!

  4. We appreciate your detailed feedback. An indicator for the current day on the gregorian calendar will be provided in the first update (v1.1).

Your other feedback regarding ease of navigation to the current phase and obviousness of date associated with phase page is understood and will also be considered for a future update

  5. Hi, I am looking for a moon info app and that’s how i saw your app.

I hope you are watching your competition, MoonPhase by RomandDuck and Phases by Bjango.

There is no winner, however, you all have something that the other is missing, none includes all the cool features. Yours is missing moon/sun rise/fall, distance to the moon and illumination as a percentage.

I like your monthly-view with the moon for each day showing.
However you need Today’s Moon info with the above info i mentioned, and more…

*The app should default to user-selected-preference of either Month view or Today’s Moon view.
*Scrolling between pages should be not with awkward little buttons, but with sliding finger left or right to go to previous month or day if in Day view.

I hope you take this as creative criticism at wanting to make your app succeed and get customers based on features, because most users of a Moon App are looking for INFO, lots and lots of INFO, and all on 1 screen (to allow screen-print) or just comparing 2 given days without having to scroll through multiple screen with info for the same day.

All the info about the moon for today can be fit on the same screen.
    That info should include:
-Moon rise, moon fall, sunrise, sunset
-distance to the moon – 203,000 miles or km (user preference)
    -30% moon illuminated
-moon is currently: (where in the sky) [or not visible]
    -time until next moonset
    -time until next moonrise
    -etc… all the info available!!!

that would make your app COMPLETE and worth $3….. keep the version as is if you must, but make a PRO version for $3, and everybody will buy it instead of the $1 apps which have incomplete info!!!

What else.. i hope you keep the Statusbar showing, some apps hide it and then we can’t see the current time or battery life left, etc…

    -Robert

  6. Robert,
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. We enjoy hearing both ideas on how we can improve Lúan and how people are using the app. One question though we have not found a great answer for is what people use the distance to the moon for? Are users interested in the apparent size of the moon as it varies between perigee and apogee? If so, then perhaps an offset from the average distance would be more useful, or even an apparent area metric? Or is it really the distance people are interested in for simply the knowledge of how far it is? Thanks again for contributing to making Lúan a better app.

  7. Nice attractive and simple-to-use app. I agree with some of the suggestions mentioned above in that I find the most glaring omission is the the lack of listing moonrise/moonset times, shown for my own time zone. For example, on August 11/12 (the night of the Perseid meteor shower), besides what phase the moon will be in I’d also like to know what time the moon will rise that night. Also, I agree with the suggestion to swipe to the next month, not click on a tiny arrow.

Keep up the excellent work. Looking forward to the next version of your fine app.

P.S. I also like the Irish name! :D

  8. Your comments are much appreciated! As is your vote for moonrise/moonset times. We are currently working thru some localization/language enhancements for our non-US customers (who actually constitute the majority). But you are likely to see moonrise/set appear as a new feature after that. Keep an eye out for future updates. :)

  9. Hi,
Congratulation for your application about MoonPhase. It facilitates to see in a glimps the useful datas about Moon.
I have noted some error about localisation data with automatic GPS. I’m in Reunion Island and use Deg/Min. If you can put the possibility of inputing manually the localisation data in degres and minutes we can avoid errors of wrong GPS localisation. Beside, elongation data will be appreciated as for the moment I use mooncalc software. I need in fact below data to foresee the possible cresent sighting.
    -Moon and Sun rise/set times
    -Moon age at sunset
    -Moon altitude at sunset
    -Moon/Sun elongation at sunset
Thanks a lot. May Gog grant you happiness with goodhealth

  10. I visited your web page in order to leave a note about moonrise/moonset. Now that this feature was already discussed some months ago. I wanted to use the app for my hunting schedule and I urgently miss that feature. Hope the update promised will come soon. Is there already a release date available?

  11. I would like to know how to read the orange and green lines that encompass the moon when you click on it

  12. this is a nice app. but graphically there are some suggestions: the line between dark and bright side should be sharper.then: when you see the whole month, the differences between the little pics are too little. the problem is: the grey background is not a good solution, because the grey line of the moon disappears. why not choose another color for the background. look at the pictures of the moons: they look almost alike (full moon/dark moon phase). hmmmm…. ok, we will see.

  13. The orange line is the time the sun is visible in the sky on the 24 hour clock. The green line is the time the moon is visible in the sky. The only tricky thing is that if the moon rises before midnight but sets after midnight, then the moonset is happening the following day. These times are calculated based on your current position.

  14. Thanks for the feedback. The background colors are tricky. Many options were examined for backgrounds. Colored backgrounds seemed to distract from the moons appearance and unnaturally accentuate the dark portion of the moon. The grayscale gave a bit more of a moon floating in the night sky effect which seemed more natural. That being said, we may revisit the images to add higher contrast between the light and dark sides (especially on the almost full and almost new images as you have noted).

  15. The moonrise/moonset as well as sunrise/sunset are now available in luan. It can be toggled on and off by tapping the large image of the moon on the “Phase” page. A 24 hour clock is used as the display method to help you visualize changes from day to day. The green line is the moon and the orange is the sun. Hope you enjoy it. Apologies for the delay.

  16. Moon and Sun rise/set times have been added to Luan. Enjoy. We will keep your other suggestions in mind as well.

  17. Barbara Berggreen February 22nd, 2010 at 5:10 pm

I just downloaded your app last night (February 21, 2010), but I don’t see the moon and sun rise and set times as you indicated above. When I tap the large image of the moon on the Phase page, it just reverts to the smaller image of the moon. Nor do I see the green and orange lines that are supposed to emcompass the moon on the Phase page. Any help would be most appreciated!

  18. The sun & moon rise & set times require your location provided by your device (iPhone or iPod touch) to calculate these values. If your location is not available, it falls back to the behavior you have indicated (not a great solution, but better than crashing :) . Make sure that the following are true:
    1) Location Services is turned “On” under your devices Settings->General->Location Services
    2) You approve Luan to use your current location when prompted
    3) You have a wireless signal (or wifi signal on an ipod touch) as these are used to determine your location.

If you did not approve Luan to use your location several times, it can remember that setting. The only way to fix this is to reset location warnings for all apps using your devices Settings->General->Reset->Reset Location Warnings button.

Hopefully this helps. Let us know how it goes. Your feedback will be used to make usability enhancements.

  19. Love the application, was using the latest version last night (23/02/2010) and noticed that in the southern hemisphere the moon position is wrong way up and the phase shadow is on the wrong side ?? Could you update the app to invert the moon and phase direction when seen from Down south (Australia) ???
    Cheers.

  20. Thanks for the feedback. Actually flipping the moon images for people down under was considered for the last release since we made Luan location aware to support the rise & set times. It did not make it in mostly for time reasons. There is also the issue of what degree latitude to make the transition. It is probably when the ecliptic appears directly overhead… or a few degrees south of that. Look for left-right correct images in a future release.

  21. I was excited to load the Luan app on my iPhone, the app loaded, however; each time I press on it my screen goes blank and then goes back to the main menu.

  22. Occasionally iPhones can get into a weird state after prolonged use. Please try rebooting your iPhone using the following procedure:
    1) Press and hold for 5 secs the silver colored screen lock button at the top of the screen.
    2) Slide the slider on screen to power off
    3) Once the screen has gone dark, press and hold for 3 secs the screen lock button at the top of the screen to boot your iPhone.
    4) Once the iPhone has booted, retry starting Luan.
If you still have issues starting Luan after restarting your iPhone, try deleting the application and re-downloading it. This looks like you are purchasing it again, but you will not be charged again. This will resolve issues that occurred at install time.
Hopefully the above suggestions resolve your issue. If not, please let us know and provide your current iPhone OS version.

  23. I purchased the app about a month ago. It has always highlighted the previous day rather than the current day. Am I missing something here or is there a bug? Also, how do you tell what version you have? There is no “i”. Thanks.

  24. There is a bug in the current version that mismarks the current day in months with a time change (for daylight savings).

The next version has a fix for this bug and is in app store review now. This will be version 1.7.

There is no version info in the app currently. The only option is to check the app store for the current version number.

  25. Thanks for letting me know. It’s a keeper then.

  26. Hello, I encounter a problem with the date of the Gregorian calendar, this delay of 1 day.
    Thank you for your help.

  27. The Lüan apps is a day to late, ik am in the Netherlands. The apps ia one day early. To day its Friday 2-4-2010, the apss give thursday 1 april

  28. Yes. Our apologies. Date arithmetic can be tricky around time changes.
Version 1.8 has been submitted to Apple. It has a fix for this issue.

    Thanks for reporting it.
